Product Release: CipherLab Launches Redesigned Industrial Mobile Computer With 8400 Series

2D image capture, increased memory and more user-friendly design improves productivity for mid-market warehouses, retail locations and logistics environments

Taipei, Taiwan - August 7, 2009 - CipherLab (TWO: 6160), a leading innovator in Automated Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) for the retail, warehouse, healthcare, government and distribution markets, today announced the worldwide availability of the 8400 series industrial mobile computer (buy here from Legacy Technology Services). Specifically designed to improve productivity in warehousing stock control, picking and order processing, manufacturing goods control, and retail in-store order processing, the 8400 helps mobile workers more efficiently collect and share data. New features of the 8400 include increased screen size to better accommodate terminal emulation, an ergonomic keypad that facilitates one handed use and a tilted scan engine to make data capture easy and more efficient.

"By analyzing industry trends specifically for warehouses, retail locations and logistics environments, we observed the need for 2D image capture, increased memory and a more user-friendly design in handheld mobile data capture devices," said Sherman Chuang, President of CipherLab. " 8400 series is developed to be the best propriety terminal to meet these AIDC requirements with new and enhanced features that made the data collection and sharing process the fastest and easiest available. The 8400 brings the power of the desktop to the work floor with a low total cost of ownership and unrivaled reliability."

The 8400 has the largest-in-class backlit 2.6 inch, 160x160 pixel display, making tasks on the handheld computer easy to see and navigate which helps accelerate activities. It offers a choice of linear imager, laser, or 2D imager to give workers the right reader for the right situation. With both BT and wireless LAN 802.11 b/g connectivity, the industrial mobile computer allows easy access to peripherals and data without restrictive cables.

CipherLab's PowerSuite SDK helps customers create custom configurations and mobile applications quickly and efficiently on the 8400. A 39-key keypad with 20 function keys makes terminal emulation user-friendly. Without an elaborate operating system the 8400 puts a lighter load on the processor, providing maximum power and work time between battery charges without sacrificing function. The proprietary operating system on the 8400 also minimizes the need for frequent system and security updates, meaning less maintenance and better productivity for a lower total cost of ownership and a higher return on investment. With up to 16 MB of onboard storage plus one MicroSD slot that accommodates 8 GB of memory, the 8400 delivers the power necessary for the most demanding data applications.
