An Advanced Industrial 2D Scanner, the Granit™191Xi Is Built to Withstand More Than 5,000 Tumble Drops in Some of the World’s Harshest Conditions. Granit is the First in a Line of New Specialized Industrial Products that Combines LXE’s Supply Chain Expertise with Honeywell’s Heritage of Trusted Scanning Technology.
Fort Mill, S.C. – January 17, 2013 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced the Auto Identification and Data Capture’s (AIDC) most rugged hand-held area-imaging device available for industrial and commercial enterprises: the Granit™ 191Xi hand-held area-imaging scanner is available in 2 versions: the corded Granit 1910i (buy here from Legacy Technology Services) and the cordless Granit 1911i (buy here from Legacy) . As the leader in 2D area-imaging technology, Honeywell’s latest hand-held device combines high-performance scanning on a platform that can keep up with the most demanding conditions in the supply chain.
Granit is at the forefront of 2D Area-Imaging, which is slated to grow at more than 15 percent per year through 2016 -- six points higher than the aggregate growth for all hand-held scanners in the regions, according to a report from VDC Research Group. More manufacturers and logistics companies are adopting 2D area-imaging in the workflow, from warehousing to pharmaceutical distribution to parcel delivery.
“Honeywell’s leadership in the rapidly growing supply chain vertical allows us to invest in technologies that provide the most durable housings with the most aggressive scanning performance in the industry,” said Taylor Smith, director of product management, Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “With our continued focus on warehouse and distribution applications, the Granit 191Xi was specifically designed to accompany many of the forklift-mounted computers and devices that we currently have deployed.”
Following the acquisitions of LXE and EMS Technologies in 2011, the Granit 191Xi further demonstrates Honeywell’s commitment to serving the warehouse and distribution applications with innovative technologies. Engineered with Adaptus® Imaging Technology 6.0 and the TotalFreedom® 2.0 development platform, the device is fully integrated with Honeywell deployment solutions. With Honeywell’s Remote MasterMind™ 3.0 device management software, businesses also can enroll and configure devices, track company assets and enforce strong password protection.
“When designing the Granit 191Xi, we relied on best practices and customer feedback to understand the need for durability in their unique working environments,” said Larry Ramsey-Macomber, senior product manager for Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “By utilizing customer feedback from the beginning of the design phase, we were able to address the durability portion of the value model without giving up the scan performance that Honeywell products are known to provide.”
“We have scanned more than 140 million 2D and 1D symbols in our manufacturing plants for parts verification and traceability. We worked with Honeywell in the development process for the Granit 191Xi scanner, and based on what we’ve seen, it addresses all of the shortcomings with prior scanners,” said Randy Lisbona, principal mechanical engineer for Lennox Industries. “It appears to be one of the most cost-effective rugged scanners on the market with the fastest decode time, including on marginal or poor quality symbols that in the past would have been considered ‘unscannable.’”
